V. Storage and Validity
1. This product is packaged in 5, 10, 25, or 50 kg polyethylene plastic drums, or in 200 kg iron drums.
2. This product should be stored in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place under normal temperature, avoiding contact with acidic or alkaline substances.
3. Store and transport as non-hazardous materials.
VI. Precautions
Contact with high-concentration strong acids or strong bases, as well as Lewis acids, tends to cause degradation and volatilization, with the reaction becoming more pronounced at higher temperatures. At lower concentrations, exposure to strong acids or strong bases—or prolonged exposure at elevated temperatures—can lead to an increase in viscosity, potentially resulting in cross-linking over time.
Methyl silicone oil, commonly known as polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), is a versatile synthetic fluid widely used in industrial, commercial, and technical applications. It is a clear, colorless, and odorless liquid composed of a silicon-oxygen backbone with organic methyl groups attached to the silicon atoms. This unique molecular structure gives methyl silicone oil excellent thermal stability, chemical resistance, and lubricating performance across a wide temperature range. Depending on the viscosity grade, it can be formulated for light lubrication, damping systems, or heavy-duty industrial processes.
One of the most important characteristics of methyl silicone oil is its outstanding resistance to extreme temperatures. It remains stable and functional in both low-temperature and high-temperature environments, typically ranging from about -50°C to over 200°C. This makes it ideal for applications where conventional mineral oils would degrade or lose effectiveness. Additionally, it has a very low surface tension, allowing it to spread easily over surfaces, providing uniform coverage and enhanced protective performance.
Methyl silicone oil is widely used as a lubricant in machinery, precision instruments, and moving components because it reduces friction and wear without leaving harmful residues. It is also commonly applied as a mold release agent in plastic, rubber, and composite manufacturing, helping products separate cleanly from molds and improving production efficiency. In the electronics industry, it serves as an effective insulating fluid due to its excellent dielectric properties and stability under electrical stress.
Another advantage of methyl silicone oil is its strong water-repellent capability. It forms a protective barrier that helps prevent moisture penetration, corrosion, and environmental damage. This makes it suitable for use in waterproofing formulations, textile finishing, and surface treatment products. Furthermore, the fluid is chemically inert and compatible with many materials, which reduces the risk of reactions that could damage equipment or compromise product quality.
In addition to industrial applications, methyl silicone oil is used in cosmetics, personal care products, and medical devices because of its smooth texture and low toxicity. It provides a silky feel in skincare formulations and enhances spreadability in creams and lotions. In mechanical systems, it functions as a damping fluid in shock absorbers, gauges, and control instruments where consistent viscosity is essential for reliable performance.
Overall, methyl silicone oil is valued for its durability, versatility, and performance stability. Its combination of lubrication, insulation, water resistance, and thermal endurance makes it an essential material in modern manufacturing and engineering processes. By selecting the appropriate viscosity and grade, industries can tailor methyl silicone oil to meet specific technical requirements and achieve long-lasting operational efficiency.
