Product Details
I. Product Information
This product, potassium methylsilicate, is an alkaline aqueous solution produced by the reaction between potassium hydroxide and methylsilicic acid. It can react with CO2 in the air or other acidic substances to form active polymethylsilicic acid, thereby imparting water-repellent properties. Primarily used as a waterproofing agent for mineral materials.
When used, dilute with water. This product creates a surface waterproofing effect, effectively reducing moisture absorption. It maintains the natural appearance of the substrate while offering both permeability and absorbency.
During application, it reacts with CO2 in the air or other acidic compounds, forming an insoluble, network-like, breathable, and waterproof film on the substrate surface. This film delivers exceptional waterproofing performance, along with excellent resistance to seepage, moisture penetration, rust formation, aging, and contamination—preventing the substrate from absorbing water.
As a result, this product helps minimize flaking caused by freeze-thaw cycles and weathering, significantly extending the service life of the substrate.
The product is easy to apply, cost-effective, provides long-lasting results, and boasts durability against scrubbing as well as resistance to extreme temperatures (50°C to 150°C).

III. Scope of Application
Primarily used for surface treatment of stone, tiles, ceramics, concrete, cement mortar, perlite, gypsum, and wood; it can also serve as an additive for water glass.
IV. Usage Methods
1. Clean the substrate surface thoroughly before use, removing any water, dirt, or other adhering substances from the material to be treated. If cracks are present, fill them with putty or cement slurry.
2. Moisten the substrate surface slightly before construction to ensure proper absorption.
3. Dilute to 3% or lower before use. If a concentration higher than 3% is required, experimental verification is mandatory. Higher concentrations may result in white residues on the waterproofed surface.
4. During construction, it can be applied by soaking, spraying, or using methods such as cloths, sponges, brushes, rollers, or sealant guns. It is also suitable for use in concrete applications.
5. After coating, the treated surface should be allowed to dry naturally. Before drying, apply two coats of paint. If used on stone or tile surfaces, ensure that the treated area is properly protected. After application, gently wipe away any excess liquid with a soft cloth before the surface fully dries. Avoid contact with water and allow the surface to cure for at least 24 hours before further handling or use.
V. Precautions
Before use, a small-sample concentration test should be conducted to determine whether the concentration is suitable for your specific application.
2. This product is highly corrosive and must not come into direct contact with skin. If accidental contact occurs, rinse immediately with clean water. In case of eye contact, flush eyes thoroughly with water for 15 minutes and seek medical attention promptly. Additionally, this product can damage or kill plants, as well as corrode or contaminate glass, plastic, aluminum, and most metals. Exercise extreme caution when spraying. When storing at home, keep out of reach of children. However, once the product has dried after brushing, its alkaline properties dissipate, rendering it harmless to humans.
3. The formulation of the waterproofing agent is too concentrated, or excessive amounts are used. After drying, a small amount of white precipitate will form on the coating surface.
4. During winter, if the temperature is too low, the product will undergo freezing of its crystal structure. When heated back to room temperature, the solution will become transparent again.
5. It is recommended to wear protective gloves and a face mask during construction to avoid inhaling the mist generated by this product when working outdoors. When spraying or atomizing in enclosed spaces, local ventilation is advised.
VI. Packaging and Storage
This product is packaged in plastic drums, each containing 250 kg. Store at temperatures below 25°C or in sealed containers. The shelf life is 12 months.
This product is non-hazardous but highly alkaline. It should be handled, transported, and stored with care.
